Have you accidentally deleted your voice messages on WhatsApp? Well, you may have a copy on your storage. If not, you will probably receive an alert message while attempting to play those messages. It will look something like this, “Sorry, this media file doesn’t exist on your internal storage”, or “Sorry, this media file does not exist anymore”. This is most likely to happen when you have deleted a message on purpose, or if you have accidentally deleted them, or it got automatically deleted due to a technical glitch. Whatever may be the reason, if you are looking for a solution to restore all those lost voice messages on WhatsApp, then this is the right place for you. We have listed a few methods to help you get back all of your deleted voice messages. Keep reading to find the best method.
Method 1 – Request Resending the Lost Voice Message
This method may not work for everyone, but it is worth trying. Before going for more complex methods, let us first try out the most simple and basic ones first. If you have manually deleted the message, then this method may apply to you. Firstly, recall how you deleted the message. Did you click on Delete for me, or Delete for everyone? If you have deleted the message just for you, then your message is probably still there on your opponent’s (sender or receiver) chat. Just request them to send them back or forward them to you. But if you have deleted the message for everyone, or if your opponent has also deleted this particular message, then this method is not right for you. Move on to the next method listed here.
Method 2 – Browsing Your Device Storage For WhatsApp Voice Messages
There are two basic settings for deleting media files on your WhatsApp account. The first one is, when you delete a media file in WhatsApp, it automatically deletes the particular files from your device storage. When you have opted for the second option and delete media files from WhatsApp, the copy of your file will be deleted from WhatsApp alone, and will still be retained on your device storage. So, if you have opted to delete media from WhatsApp alone, you can still recover files from your internal storage.
However, this method has an important limitation – It cannot be applied on iOS devices. This is because Apple devices do not generally allow you to access and modify internal storage. Also, WhatsApp stores media files on your device, only after you download them. So if you haven’t downloaded, or not played your audio at least once, you won’t find it in your device storage. Not sure whether you downloaded your data or not? You can just try out this method. Here is what you need to do –
- Go to the File Manager or any similar application on your device.
- Open your Internal Storage.
- Search and open the folder named WhatsApp.
- Click open Media from WhatsApp, and then go to WhatsApp Audio.
- Once in there, you will find all the downloaded audio files. If you have received those files, you will find them here. If not, if you have sent these files, you will find them in the Sent folder.
That’s it. You have now restored your voice messages on WhatsApp. If this method did not work for you, then keep reading to find the next possible method.
Method 3 – Restore Voice Messages on WhatsApp With a Backup
If you have previously enabled backups on your device, then you can easily get back all your files in no time. Backups can be of any kind – personal cloud, iCloud, Google Drive, or anything of that kind. To make things easier, we have discussed this procedure in detail in our Guide on Recovering WhatsApp Chats on Android/iOS. The procedure is similar to that mentioned there. Just follow everything there, and you will be able to get back all your deleted voice messages.
Method 4 – Using Third-Party Data Recovery Software
When you don’t have any backup, and you don’t have any media on your storage, or if you face any trouble with the methods mentioned above, you can go with this method. When you cannot recover data from your device, leave it in the hands of another software. There are tons of third-party data recovery software programs available in the market. However, not all of them are effective. You need to select the best software that highly assures you with your data. We would recommend the Recoverit Data Recovery Software. It is a product of Wondershare. For a detailed analysis, you can refer to our Wondershare Data Recovery Review. Here is how you can use the software to restore all your voice messages on WhatsApp –
- Download and install the Recoverit Data Recovery Software for Windows or Mac on your computer.
- Connect your device to your computer. If you have stored this data previously on an external storage device, connect that device to your computer.
- Launch the data recovery software, and wait for it to recognize your device.
- After this, select your device from the External Devices section.
- Click on Scan. It will take some time to scan all your files from the location.
- After this, a list of all the recoverable files will be displayed.
- Select all the files that you want to recover. You can also filter them according to the file type. In this case, select audio files.
- Click on Recover or Restore. This will save these files to your computer.
That’s it. You have now successfully recovered all your voice messages from WhatsApp. When restoring your recovered files, make sure that you store them in a location other than their previous one. In this way, you can protect data from technical glitches on the external device.
Method 5 – Seeking Help From Professionals
If any of the above methods do not work for you and your data is extremely important to you, you can go for this method. Remember, opt for this method only if your data is expensive. This is because, when you seek help from professionals, it may cost you some money. There are many data recovery services available across the globe. They have professionals, who are experts in bringing back any kind of data. So, choose the best among them, and you can easily restore your voice messages on WhatsApp.
