Looking for a way to recover a Facebook account, particularly one created using Gmail? That’s a common request. First, we must ask a few important questions. Do you have your Facebook username? If so, you can restore a Facebook account using a username. Do you perhaps remember your old password for Facebook and need a reminder on other credentials? Is your access to the account disabled by Facebook? The answers to these questions will affect the way you should proceed. We’ll try to make a universal guide on how to recover FB account without Gmail.

Instructions to restore FB account without Gmail

We will assume your account isn’t disabled, and that you simply forgot the Gmail address tied to it, or no longer have access to it.

1. Gather information you have

Do you know your username? It’s the combination of words, symbols, or numbers in the address bar. For example, facebook.com/jack. If you also know the password, you can use the combination of the two to log in – no recovery is needed. The same applies to the phone number. Simply enter the phone number and the password, and you can sign in effortlessly. Keep reading if you don’t have the password but have one or both.

2. Reset Facebook password if you have the phone number

This is a good situation to be in. The steps are short and almost guaranteed to work. Before you go further, do the entire process from a device and/or network you accessed Facebook in the past.

  1. Open facebook.com in your browser.
  2. Below sign-in fields, click on Forgot password?
  3. Enter your phone number.
Any format is acceptable. Using the United States as an example, you can type 1, +1, or 001 before your phone number.
  4. You’ll now see your first and last name, and a profile picture.
  5. Choose the option Send code via SMS below.
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. Enter the code you received as a text message into the designated text field on the website.
  8. You can now enter the new password twice and reset it permanently.

3. Got the username but no phone number? No problem!

Two things are vital to your success:

  1. Using a familiar device or network (the one you have used to log in to your Facebook account in the past).
  2. Whether you activated the Trusted Contacts feature in the past.

If those two pre-requisites are fulfilled, do this:

  1. Visit the facebook.com address in your browser.
  2. Click on Forgot password?
  3. Enter your username.
  4. If your IP address is recognized, you’ll see your profile picture and first and last name.
  5. Click on No longer have access to these?
  6. Click on I Cannot Access my Email.
  7. The next step will fail too since you can’t enter the phone number. You will be offered Trusted Contacts instead.
  8. Facebook will show 4 profiles of people you interacted with. You have to enter one full name, as they are registered on Facebook, to unlock all 4 profiles. Then, you must send 3 out of 4 friends a link Facebook provided you with. Each friend will give you a code to enter into the field on the website.
  9. If this went according to plan, you can both choose a new password and a new Gmail (or another e-mail address).

4. No password, username, phone number, or Gmail? A desperate attempt at recovery ahead

Facebook has designed a special page to help people recover old Facebook accounts or reported Facebook accounts that were hacked and inaccessible.

  1. Open the Confirm Your Identity page.
  2. Upload up to 3 JPEG images of your ID by clicking on Choose Files.
Read the F.A.Q. above if you have doubts about what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
  3. Since you don’t have a Gmail, feel free to create a new one, or use an old one that you can log into. Enter the address into the empty text box below.
  4. Log into the same Gmail, and compose a new e-mail.
  5. In the title and body, explain your situation briefly, and provide as much information as you can remember. Mention that you tried resetting the password and that you uploaded pictures via their system. Don’t attach the pictures of your ID.
  6. Put [email protected] as the recipient.
  7. Wait. There’s no defined time period Facebook Help team will answer within. In fact, if they cannot match the data you provided, you might never get a response.

After recovering Facebook without Gmail

If you were able to recover the account without your Gmail address, good for you. But things doesn’t end there. To avoid repeating these steps over and over again, you should make sure that you use a Gmail account that you will not lose access to. It is very important to keep the account connected with Facebook safe. If something bad happens to your account including hack attempts, forgotten passwords, etc., the only thing that can help you is your Gmail account connected with it (assuming that you didn’t set up any other recovery mechanisms).

So, make sure that you note down your Gmail account details somewhere safe so that even if you forget its details, you can refer to that.
